On ugly children?

I am not sure why we write books any more in this modern age as there is quite a collection already in existence that have faithfully survived the centuries and are still worth the reading.  I suppose that is the one advantage of the e-book: it shall never collect dust, though many are likely doomed to obscurity.  But perhaps that is why we still write books, obscurity bound or no, every book is beloved by its writer as a child its mother, it is a thing conceived in the soul and birthed by the pen (or word processor) and the author is never content until it is fully formed and can love it as only a mother could, the world's opinion be what it will.  I only wish that every author were also a master of grammar and spelling, for there are many ugly children of the literary type wandering around the cybersphere, yet their writers love them still, warts and all.
